A TASTE OF ISTRIA – YOUR GIFT
We wanted to give you something small that would remind you of our destination.
Truffles are one of Istria’s most distinctive treasures — rare, aromatic and able to turn even the simplest dish into something special. A little like the Adriatic itself.
Istria stretches across Slovenia and Croatia, where different varieties of truffles can be found throughout the year.
Below are a few simple ways to enjoy your gift.
SIMPLE WAYS TO ENJOY YOUR TRUFFLE
1. CREAMY TRUFFLE PASTA
Cook your favourite pasta and reserve a little pasta water. Gently warm butter and cream, add Parmesan and toss with the pasta. Remove from the heat and stir in the truffle product. Finish with black pepper and extra Parmesan.
2. STEAK WITH TRUFFLE BUTTER
Season a good-quality beef steak with salt and black pepper. Cook it in a hot pan to your preferred doneness, then let it rest for five minutes. Mix softened butter with the truffle product and place a spoonful on the warm steak just before serving. Perfect with roasted vegetables or truffle mashed potatoes.
3 .TRUFFLE MASHED POTATOES
Boil the potatoes until soft, then mash them with butter and warm milk. Add the truffle product at the very end and mix gently. A simple side dish with a luxurious Istrian touch.
Truffles are best added at the end of cooking, as excessive heat can reduce their aroma or spread it on a slice of warm, crusty bread and enjoy.
